Greetings and problems from Estonia
« on: December 18, 2006, 23:49:14 PM »
Hi, to you all...
Nice site you have over here... Hope we manage to put one up in Estonia also...

Actually I have a problem and I was wondering if you guys can help me out. A car service shop basically blew up my engine and I need a new one... Although my car is a 2G, I want the 1G engine. I am thinking of doing the 6-bolt swap.

And heres the question does anyone have or know someone who has a 1'st generation 4G63T engine... Or a GVR-4 engine.. or EVO III engine.

I can't find one in Estonia and the company dealing with JDM engines says that they can't even get one from Japan. So... I am in a desperate situation.
I hope you can help...

Thanks

Here are few pictures of my car when it was still ok...

it would be a shame to be kept in garage in summer because of no engine  :'(

Greetings!
Really nice ride you have there.

We have atleast one company here in Finland who can bring engines from Japan. But it may take damn long to get it, almost 6months.

But why exactly do you want to swap to 6bolt? If you build your 7bolt engine from scratch you will get as good as 6bolt engine. And as 1G cyl. head is better than 2G. You can buy any 88-92 Galant GTi 16v dohc cylinder head or 1g n/a cylinder head, and use it in your 7bolt block, they are identical with turbo heads.

Please do tell more of what you want to do with your future engine setup, we'll be glad to help out  8-)

If you want I can give you contact info to that store who brings engines from japan. Or you can check out www.japan.fi

Hello!

I know a guy in Latvia, who put 1G 4G63T engine into 2G talon. Actually there were (and still are) many problems to do this engine swap correctly, i.e.  electrical mistakes, and finally, 1G engine does not fit correctly in 2G body - there is ~ 2 centimeters offset from correct position, that cause more load to front axles.

I agree with Teme, easier will be to take Your exist engine and build it up!

Anyway, If You need more info about 1G engine swap, I can talk to that guy who has done it and find out more for You.  ;)

Hi,

Thanks for the concern, but I already know that there have to be made some modifications and I am willing to do them. My friend here has done the same swap already (and the engine works perfectly). And most of the DSM tuners in USA also have done the swap.

I don't want to rebuild the engine because of the crank walk issue 2G enginges have. Since I'm planning to build a street/drag car the 2G engine block can't handle the power. Therefore I need either 1G (89-92), Galant VR-4 (89-93) or evo III engine.

I called www.japan.fi and they might have an engine in February but it is not sure thou.

Thanks for the answers.

Hi. Nice car you have.  :)

Anyway here is a webpage I found and it contains a full schmatic of how to swap the 1G engine into a 2G car. http://www.magnusmotorsports.com/tech/1gina2g.pdf

I don't want to rebuild the engine because of the crank walk issue 2G enginges have.

In stock engines yeah. This is because Mitsubishi built many defective crankshafts, which were machined out of specification and are thus capable of moving around too much inside the block.

But if you get all new bearings and take the whole block and crankshaft etc.. for machine shop for full balancing and checking. You will not have any crankwalk problems.

And this isn't true. If you build your 2g engine from scratch it will be as good as any 6bolt engine you will build up. They are not so good engines stock as 1g but still when build yourself, you will get great engine.

As you probably have read, that there have been different arguments about "what causes crank walk". One of them has been what you just mentioned,  one was about too small oil passages in the 2G engine block, another about too soft alloy of the block and so on...

Even if it helps, I would have to buy a new 2G engine and have it machined, because my engine block was badly damaged when it was blown. So it would be double as expensive (engine+machining).

Thanks for the suggestion thou.. :)

Ah oke. Well then it's different story if your block is badly damaged.  Let us know how your work is progressing!

Still.... if anyone hears about a possible engine somewhere... or has some suggestions where to look it from.... I would be very thankful for any information, that leads to an engine...

Any other forums in Finland, where I could post my problem/need?  :-[

We have one Finnish member who lives in the United States. If your really desperate of 6bolt engines, he might be able to check one for you and maybe get it shipped to you (if he wants ship something as big as whole engine..). But it's gonna cost you alot. Want me to ask from him?

Don't you have any 1G turbo cars on sale there? That you could strip the engine from?

I have a friend also there who can do that... but the waste of time and the cost of transportation in quite big.... so I'd prefer some "closer" and "cheaper" options before... Thanks for the offer...

I'm very interested in some more contacts if you can find them... I hope it's not big trouble for you  :-[

Both of these sellers said, that they had just sold the engine..."sry, a bit too late"

And here are no turbo DSM (1G) s for sale.... And there hasn't been any for several years actually. They are very rare here..

No trouble at all. Allways great to help someone. I will try to search more contacts later this evening. (at work now)

You could buy 6bolt n/a dohc engine, and build your new turbo engine from it. If those engines are easier to find?

I have build my turbo engine from 1g 7bolt n/a engine from the scratch.

Oh, and try to look up this http://www.reklama.lv/lv/data/transport/cars/sell/mitsubishi/eclipse/3122332.html

Its an add for a complete car, but when we checked it out it was completely beaten to death. But since you're rebuilding the engine anyway, this will not be an issue for you.

Haggle the price down and you'll have a ready parts car and have all the parts you might ever need for doing that swap.

True. The cost to ship just one engine will be just too high. 6-bolt Engines are available, but I would have to collect a pile of engines and ship a whole full container.

Just got a call that my EVO3 engine from Japan has arrived in Estonia. Got to go and check it out.
